Vascular Disease Foundation Launches Public Service Announcements on PAD
November 17, 2011—The Vascular Disease Foundation announced the launch of two public service announcements (PSAs) that seek to educate patients who have or who are at risk for peripheral artery disease (PAD) by addressing PAD symptoms, risk factors, and treatment options.
In the PSAs, Michael R. Jaff, DO, Medical Director of the Vascular Center at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, alerts patients to the dangers of PAD, including the increased risk of heart attack, stroke, leg amputation, and death.
The PSAs advise the public that everyone older than 50 years of age is at risk for PAD and that the risk increases if a person has diabetes, high blood pressure, abnormal blood cholesterol, a history of smoking, a history of coronary heart disease or stroke, or is African American. The public is warned that PAD is a devastating disease and is often undiagnosed and, many times, has no recognizable symptoms. These PSAs can be found on the Vascular Disease Foundation’s YouTube channel.
